Jun (Series 6)

If there is something I regret about collecting the Halo: Reach action figures made by McFarlane Toys, is playing the long game to get the helmeted version of Jun released in Series 3, which to this day is still missing from my collection.

Still, having already bought into the whole un-helmeted Nobles after getting Jorge and Carter, I knew it was only a matter of time before McFarlane came up with the figure I’m reviewing today, the Series 6 Jun with no helmet.

Even though the Spartan armor is pretty much the same throughout the line, with only a few pieces switched here and there to denote different specialties, the members of Noble team always got further enhancements that made it pretty much impossible to replicate their appearance exactly using pieces from the custom armor packs, and that not even taking into account the paint coloration.

Series 6 Jun has all the extra bits of personalized armor, which ups the level of detail already sculpted into the figure. The bare face is quite lifelike and has a rather serene expression.

Jun sports the improved knee articulation that McFarlane started to use after Series 3, so the new Jun has broader range of motion in the legs and can actually kneel better than the original release. The whole articulation model for Jun goes like this:

• Barbell jointed neck.

• Pegged hinge shoulders

• Hinged elbows with swivels above and below the joint.

• Hinged wrists with swivels above and below the joint.

• Barbell mounted torso.

• Swivel hips.

• Barbell mounted upper thighs.

• Pegged hinge knees.

• Hinged ankles with swivels above and below the joint.

• Ball jointed toes.

About the only place where the sculpt hinders the functionality of a joint is the neck, because the shawl prevents the head from turning or tilting too far in any direction, although it is possible to squeeze some poses from it.

Jun’s armor is nicely painted in olive green with no secondary color, and it has some simulated wear achieved by dry brushing gunmetal silver over the edges, although not to the point of obscuring the other markings painted over the armor pieces.

The paint applications on the head are quite impressive, especially the shaved-head effect and the tattoo painted on the left side of Jun’s face displaying a fist holding three arrows.

Jun comes armed with his trusty sniper rifle and a plain fragmentation grenade. The rifle has no moving pieces and it molded in dull silver plastic, with a few sections of the weapon painted black. Since this weapon has been seldom used in the line, getting it now is a very welcome decision by McFarlane.

Overall, the un-helmeted version of Jun turned out to be quite a good addition to my collection, to the point that I’m actually considering getting a second one to customize.

Errex Score: 95/100
