Hero Power Captain America

Hero Power Captain America

Even as a kid, mismatched scale characters never really appealed to me. I understand the kid appeal of these larger figures, especially with a movie character like Captain America. Thanks to the folks at the Regal Movies on Twitter, I won one this guy through a trivia contest related to the new film. There is […]

R2-D2 (Star Wars Buddies)

R2-D2 (Star Wars Buddies)

Who would expect a hard metallic character like R2-D2 to make such a cute plush? Yes, he’s a fan favorite, but I never thought of him as warm and cuddly. And really he’s a pretty well done. There were plenty of ways they could have cheaped out here and didn’t. The only place they did, […]

Flood Pure Form Stalker

Flood Pure Form Stalker

It has become very common place in first person shooter video games to include at least one type of antagonists that are kind of gross and fairly easy to kill individually, but whose strength comes from their numbers, rather than their combat prowess, like zombies, insects or, in the case of the Halo franchise, the alien Flood. In the Halo games, the Flood combines traits from both the Alien series facehuggers with the relentlessness of zombies, depending of their state of evolution.

Low Light (Pursuit of Cobra)

Low Light (Pursuit of Cobra)

Low Light is one of those GI Joe characters I know light about, but is still cool enough to warrant buying. I tend to lean more towards the realistic characters, and every Special Forces and SWAT team has a sniper right? I’m sorry, according to his card he’s a “Night Spotter.” Apparently, night spotters […]

Apocalypse

Apocalypse

Apocalypse is one of those X-Men villains that I never really knew what their deal was at the time I was reading X-Titles semi-regularly. The whole “Survival of the Fittest” angle seemed a bit too ambitious to me, but I reckon it gave plenty of justification for almost anything the writers could come up with.

Luke Skywalker (Bespin Fatigues)

Luke Skywalker (Bespin Fatigues)

If there is one thing that Star Wars collectors can agree on, it’s the Vintage Collection has brought us a number of “definitive” versions of classic characters. Including Bespin fatigues Luke Skywalker. I’m not sure why I hadn’t got this review finished before now. This Luke is probably one of the best figures I […]

Skaar (Son of Hulk)

Skaar (Son of Hulk)

After the events of the World War Hulk comics series, there were a few loose ends to the storyline left o be resolved back in the regular continuity of the titles involved. One of such loose end revolves around the Hulk’s son, Skaar.

Mace Windu

Mace Windu

I am not a big Mace Windu fan. I never gave too much importance to his appearance in Episode I, since it was little more than a cameo, but even though he had a more active role during Episode II, I actually resented somewhat his involvement in Jango Fett’s death.

ODST Soldier Buck

ODST Soldier Buck

One thing you’ll notice from the early series of the Halo figures made by McFarlane toys, is that the bulk of them is comprised of Spartan variants, mixed in with a few of the more representative Covenant warriors.

Beachhead (Pursuit of Cobra)

Beachhead (Pursuit of Cobra)

I’ve actually seen Beachhead turn up in few different places lately. Continuing the trend of masked characters I couldn’t resist picking him up. I debated, though, since at first glance his blister seems a little less full than my normal GI Joe purchases. Beachhead is an Army Ranger character for the Joes and in general […]

Barriss Offee (Jedi Padawan)

Barriss Offee (Jedi Padawan)

The last time there was a realistic-looking action figure made of Barriss Offee, was in the Saga 2003 line. Back then it was something of a trend to sculpt the figures in rather extreme action stances and that is why I only have two Episode 2 action figures from that era in my collection, none of which is this character.

Tartarus

Tartarus

I don’t buy toys from McFarlane all that often, because for a time they focused more on producing statuettes rather than action figures, and the quality of their materials was rather poor, despite sporting stellar sculpting and great paintjobs.

Captain Britain (Comic Series)

Captain Britain (Comic Series)

One of the figures I was most excited about, from the Captain America toy line by Hasbro, was this version of Captain Britain (06). Unfortunately, once the figure started showing at stores, I was less than thrilled by the paintjob it got.

Jawa (Star Wars Buddies)

Jawa (Star Wars Buddies)

Frequent readers will know that I kinda like the little dessert scavengers from Star Wars. I was even a Jawa for Halloween one year. So finding the Star Wars Buddy version in my collection isn’t a big stretch. For such a plain character, there’s a ton of detail in this little guy. His body is […]

Kilowog

Kilowog

Kilowog is one of the more popular member of the Green Lantern Corps, and that popularity pretty much guarantees that he’d have figures made of him whether in the comic inspired style or in the movie accurate incarnation.

GI Joe Catalog (Vintage)

GI Joe Catalog (Vintage)

I always used to love the little insert catalogs that came with boxed vehicles and other items. In those pre-internet days, they were some of the only pictures you had to know what was coming up in a line. One of my favorites is this original GI Joe insert from the start of the line. […]

Senate Guard

Senate Guard

As movie characters, the blue Senate Guards never did seem to do much, other than parading and standing at attention, but that didn’t prevent the designers at Hasbro from crafting a fairly dynamic action figure for the fourth wave of figures in the Star Wars Vintage Collection.

Hooded Cobra Commander (Vintage) Non-Review

Hooded Cobra Commander (Vintage) Non-Review

I think most collectors have had something in their collection they don’t have any more and would like back. Mine is the mail away Hooded Cobra Commander.  So for this non-review, I’m going to tell you what I remember. The body of the figure was the same as the regular chrome faced one reviewed here. […]

Red Skull

Red Skull

Probably one of the more recognizable villains in the Marvel Universe, Red Skull has found his way into the second wave of Captain America figures as the main movie baddie. Past that, I really don’t know much about Red Skull past the fact he creeped me out when he showed up on comic book covers when I was […]
