Zuckuss here was one of the bounty hunters from “The Empire Strikes Back.” Did I say Zuckuss? I meant 4-LOM. A little explanation for the POTF2 generation. Back in the vintage line days, the names for 4-LOM and Zuckuss got switched. So, this guy got branded as Zuckuss. When POTF2 rolled around the names got switched to the correct ones. The hard part for me is I know him as Zuckuss. Since the Internet wasn’t around back then, there were no real sources for character names or discussion boards to debate it on. Cardbacks were it back then for the fanboys. (Check out the bottom picture.)

I have to say the number name makes more sense for a droid. According to the Star Wars Databank, his name comes as a license plate version of “for(4) Love Of Money.”

Appearance:

4-LOM may not usurp CZ-4 from favorite figure of the year spot, but he’s pretty good. Again another figure where the paint really pulls off the look of the character. The paint on this guys is a lot more subtle than the garish rusty orange stuff used on the POTF2 version.

I have to say for the most part 4-LOM here is a pretty good likeness of his all of ten seconds of background screen time in Empire.

He looks a bit on the skinny side, but not overly so. Mainly in the mid section he looks a bit narrow. If you consider that the character was an actor in a suit, the waist proportions just seem a bit off. Now you could reason that is intentional to make him a bit more droid like, I suppose.

My biggest complaint is with his eyes and head. The silverish head threw me off at first, but after reviewing some photos, I agree it should be that way. It would have been nice to have seen a tad bit of wash on the detailed areas to bring them out a little more.

Then there are the eyes. To me they just aren’t right. From most of the pictures I looked at, his eyes appear to be smooth spheres with a pattern on them. And that pattern is a couple of colors. What is presented on this figure is a sculpted textured blob in one color. The figures eyes don’t even really match the painting on the new card back front. The sculpt just seems a little too organic for a droid. Even with the vintage Zuckuss, I remember thinking, “Is he a droid or not?”

Fun:

The bounty hunters from Episode 5 are among some of the the most popular Star Wars characters. None besides Fett receive any significant screen time, but people still love them.

With this release we get a 4-LOM with a bunch of articulation to play out those great bounty hunting scenes in our heads. Elbows, knees, ankles, and wrists this dangerous droids got it all.

I have to say I’m pretty impressed with the shoulder joint. It’s ball jointed but covered up with the should pieces. It restricts his shoulder movement some, but hey, it should he’s a droid.

Accessories are a little slim for 4-LOM. His rifle and a coin. There’s some detailing on the rifle, not a ton, but some. A little paint would’ve jazzed it up quite a bit. The one thing that bugged me the most about the rifle is that even with all the great articulation, he can’t really hold it in an action pose.

The coin has the bounty droid on the front. The back features Boba Fett’s logo. I guess it’s a bounty hunter thing.

Overall:

Is 4-LOM a great figure? Yes, he is. He’s about the best we can expect for a character that marginal screen time and yet a fair amount of EU material developed about him.

So, if you’re a fan of the bounty hunters, track down this new version of Zuckuss, I mean 4-LOM. Old habits die hard.
