Inferno Cannon Black Widow (Avengers Assemble)

AA Black Widow

I was not expecting Hasbro to release another Black Widow figure so soon after the one that came out in the Avengers movie line but since there is the new Avengers Assemble animated show I guess it made sense to include her in the first wave of figures.

AA Black Widow (6)Inferno Cannon Black Widow is sold under the S.H.I.E.L.D. Gear sub-line, which means she is a fairly decently articulated action figure and that she comes packaged with an accessory.

The figure itself seems to be an amalgamation of styles from the Avenger movie version and the comic-inspired Marvel Universe release. The body sculpt is the exact same mold that was used for the Avengers movie Black Widow, so you know how well detailed and curvy she is. She even uses the same wristbands from that release, but with a different belt piece similar to that from the Marvel Universe Black Widow.

The head sculpt is completely new, not bearing a resemblance to any known actress or model but nonetheless very pretty. The overall styling does look like a much needed update of the generic head sculpt used in the Marvel Universe line, only this time her hair piece is shaped in a windswept fashion.

AA Black Widow (4)Since this is the exact same body as the movie Widow, articulation remains the same which means Inferno Cannon Black Widow has:

• Hinged peg neck.

• Pegged hinge shoulders.

• Pegged hinge elbows.

• Swivel wrists.

• Ball jointed hips.

• Upper thigh swivels.

• Double hinged knees.

• Hinged peg ankles.

• Rocker feet.

Not bad articulations design by any means, although the new hair sculpt does limit somewhat the range of movement at the neck.

AA Black Widow (3)The paintjob on the new Black Widow is minimal of course, but somehow it still results in a more striking uniform due to the bright gold accents on her zipper, wristbands and belt. Also, the plastic seems darker, with boots and gloves painted in a very glossy finish.

The paint applications on her face are very neat, with dark red lips and clean green eyes framed by the reddish auburn hair. The skin color itself is a tad strong for my tastes, since the hue selected resembles the earlier stages of sunburn, but I guess it does reflect the character pantone used for the animated show.

As I mentioned, this figure comes with S.H.I.E.L.D. Gear. From what I can tell, these pieces of equipment are going to be mostly re-issues of the action accessories that have come with figures from any other Hasbro line.

The Inferno Cannon this Black Widow comes with is actually the same action accessory that had been issued to the Hydra Soldiers from the Captain America movie line. This is an accessory of a decent size that shoots dark red projectiles, of which two are included in the package.

I was hesitant at first on getting this figure, since she is not all that different from her movie-style version, but a quick glance at her Marvel Universe release made me realize I still needed a better version of a comics-based Black Widow and certainly, this Avengers Assemble version more than fits the bill.

I've been collecting action figures since the original Kenner Star Wars days. Nowadays, I still collect pretty much anything that catches my eye.
