Desert Outpost (Call of Duty)
Keeping with the desert theme, today’s review is about set # 06846, Desert Outpost, released by Mega Bloks for their Call of Duty line in 2014.
The Desert Outpost set consists of 79 pieces, including minifigure parts and accessories. The set includes just one desert-attired trooper, kit-bashed from existing Call of Duty molds; the minifigure has the standard articulation for this line, which means he has:
• Ball jointed head.
• Pegged hinge shoulders
• Pegged hinge elbows.
• Swivel wrists.
• Swivel waist.
• Ball jointed hips.
• Hinged knees.
The Outpost piece itself incorporates some very unique construction pieces, among them some rounded-edge bricks that simulate worn stone, a piece of coiled, barbed wire and an archway piece with stone carving on one side.
The plastic used for the simulated stone bricks has different colored particles mixed in, which provides a fairly attractive appearance to the piece, despite the conspicuous red ladder and barrel pieces.
The accessories included for the trooper minifigure are a couple of modular assault rifles, a pistol, a utility vest and a variety of extra ammo magazines and pouches.
Although the whole Outpost is a rather small set, it would be perfectly possible to combine two or three of these sets to produce a more complex piece of scenery, which in my opinion adds to the value of sets such as these.
