Yoda (Clone Wars)

To finish off the review of the Clone Wars Gift Pack I got, today I’ll be taking a gander at Jedi Master Yoda. First off, this is the second version of the character produced for the animated TV series line.

The first Yoda had a built-in action feature that allowed him to shoot a projectile from one of his sleeves, so I never really had any interest in getting it.

This version of Yoda is a lot more similar to what we are used to. The sculpting style is very stylized and the figure comes clad in a light fabric robe that looks very similar to the material used by Kenner in the vintage days.

Yoda has a fairly expressive face and the hair spikes look nicely detailed. In contrast, the body under the robe lacks any kind of sculpted textures and it is rather chubby although it still gets a pretty respectable amount of articulation consisting of:

• Ball jointed neck.

• Pegged hinge shoulders.

• Pegged hinge elbows.

• Swivel wrists.

• Swivel waist.

• Swivel hips.

• Ball jointed ankles.

Even with the lack of knee articulation, Yoda is a very fun figure to mess around with thanks to the elbow and ankle joints. While ball jointed ankles are certainly nothing new in the realistic style Yoda figures, it is very unusual to get any type of elbow joints in them, and so this is a clear advantage of the animated style version.

Yoda’s paintjob is very simple, limited mostly to the nails on fingers and toes, the solid white hair on his head and a three-color paint operation on the eyes. However, if you look closely, you’ll notice that the exposed skin also received a very slight paint wash.

As far as accessories, other than the fabric robe, Yoda comes with a short green lightsaber and a walking stick. The saber has the hilt decorated in silver and black, but the cane has no paint on it whatsoever. Also included are a silvery plastic display base and a Galactic Battle Game with the stats pertaining Yoda’s battle prowess, but the diminutive Jedi has to share the same blue die with his set companions.

The only thing I don’t quite like about this action figure and the reason why I did not get the individually carded, second release is because this Yoda is actually too big.

Really, if you look at the episodes of the show featuring Yoda, his head (not counting the ears) is about the same size as that of any other humanoid character, but in the action figure the head seems to be at least double the mass of any clone’s head, helmet and all.

Still, CW Yoda looks great on his own or alongside characters with even weirder head shapes, and if you can ignore the scale issue, it certainly makes for a nice addition to any Clone Wars display.
