Clu’s Sentry

Well, you know that whenever an action figure is named after his job description the character it’s based on must be some kind of minion with a very low life expectancy when facing hero-type characters, kind of like Imperial Stormtroopers or Trek red shirts.

Despite of that, Clu’s Sentry turns out to be quite nice as an action figure. The color scheme is the established black/orange bad guy palette, but instead of being the regular black bodyglove design, the costume actually feels like formal uniform. Sculpt is sharp as ever, and it seems to incorporate hardened plates to the chest area along with a short skirt open at the front, adding to the regal feel to the uniform.

The helmet design is mostly a smooth carapace finished to a high gloss and covers most of the face except for the mouth and chin area. The skin is simply block painted in pale flesh color, but you can see the tightlipped, grim determination sculpted underneath.

Even though the skirt pieces are fairly flexible, they do interfere a bit with the articulation on the hips. Other than that, articulation is good and adheres to the model set for the other figures in the line with:

Ball jointed neck.

• Peg & hinge shoulders.

• Upper biceps swivel.

• Peg & hinge elbows.

• Swivel wrists.

Peg & hinge hips.

• Upper thigh swivels.

• Peg & hinge knees.

• Peg & hinge ankles.

The torso is molded in translucent orange plastic with a thick, black coat of matte paint covering most of the surface except for the long panels that allow the light-up action feature to shine through the Sentry’s chest. The limbs are molded in black plastic with the glow lines painted in bright orange, neatly enough for mass-market standards. As usual, make sure to search and compare for the best paintjobs available.

The light-up action feature is activated by pressing the button at his back, which is conveniently disguised as part of the costume, so even though the mechanism is rather bulky, it doesn’t look too out of place. The light remains on for about 5 seconds after the button is pressed and then it turns off.

Clu’s Sentry ships with an identity disc, a staff and a round display base. Each of these pieces is molded in black plastic and given accents in orange to match the look of the figure. The staff has a section than resembles the shorter combat batons from other figure in the line, with extensions on each end; this makes me think that these batons will be much more versatile tools in the movie.

Clu’s Sentry is a really nice, fun figure to have, and being a trooper-type figure makes it real easy to justify getting more than one for Clu and Rinzler to boss around.

I've been collecting action figures since the original Kenner Star Wars days. Nowadays, I still collect pretty much anything that catches my eye.
