Weequay (Skiff Master)
Even though this specific character never had an action figure made back in the Kenner years, Hasbro deemed the Weequay (Skiff Master) worthy of being released as part of the Star Wars Vintage Collection in 2011.
The original Kenner Weequay wore a much different attire and already has a couple of updates floating around, the latest in the Battle over the Sarlacc Pit Battlepack from the 30th Anniversary line.
This new addition to the Weequay roster wears a rather bulky quilted jacket and fairly nondescript brown pants and shoes. The jacket is sculpted with a very good amount of detail and looks pretty much accurate to it’s on-screen counterpart, full of deep folds and creases that project shadows in a very effective manner.
Likewise, the head is sculpted with the characteristic facial features of the Weequay species and even though talking about likenesses would be futile, the Skiff Master’s face looks much more alive than the Weequay masks used for the film, which I count as a positive.
The articulation is pretty much the standard model used for most of the newer goons in the employ of Jabba, consisting of:
• Ball jointed neck. (By the way, I got the short neck variant, which in my opinion looks better).
• Pegged hinge shoulders.
• Pegged hinge elbows.
• Swivel wrists.
• Swivel waist.
• Swivel hips.
• Pegged hinge knees.
• Pegged hinge ankles.
The character design does get in the way of some of the joints, like the hips being limited by the rubber skirt piece and the ankle extension limited to a few degrees back and forth, but the overall result is still functional and consistent with the rest of Jabba’s goons.
The paint applications on the Skiff Master are minimal, with only a few block colored areas for the leather gear and a ashen brown wash applied to the jacket to enhance the look of the sculpted textures. A nice detail on Hasbro’s part is that they painted the eyes entirely black, instead of giving this Weequay white schleras, like they did for Aak-Rev.
The Weequay Skiff Master comes armed with one of those ornate blaster pistols favored by Jabba’s skiff crews and a force halberd, pretty much the same mold as the ones that came with Woof or Giran. Both pieces are molded in dark silver plastic, but have additional bright silver paint apps that add a lot to the look of the weapons.
Overall, the Weequay Skiff Master is a well-designed action figure and also a very nice addition to Jabba’s entourage.

Another nice figure from ROTJ. Hasbro has given a lot of love to the Skiff Gang over the past few years, with two different versions of Weequay, Klaatu, Nikto, and a new, slightly different version of Barada either out or on the way for this year. I do enjoy these guys, so no complaints here. They’re like an awesome motley crew of space pirates for me and that is a cool thing indeed.
