Mr. Fantastic (Mega Bloks)

I’ve said it before, I’m not a huge Fantastic Four fan. I wasn’t trying to get Mr. Fantastic, but the I couldn’t figure out what the gun thing was in the darn package.

Appearance:

I’m sure this is based on a more modern comic book appearance that the ones I’m familiar with. Essentially, except for Ben Grimm, the Fantastic Four are traditional body suit superheroes. As such, Reed Richards is pretty much a middle aged guy in a suit.

Don’t get me wrong, the suit is done well enough. The lines are crisp. The “4” is done pretty cleanly. Nothing unexpected here.

The main thing that sets him apart is his head. It’s not pretty generic, but he grey on his temples sets this apart as Mr. Fantastic. The one thing I’m not sure about here is the guy liner seems a bit thick.

 

Fun:

Like I said above, I mainly picked him up because I couldn’t figure out what the gun was in the package. It’s one of the cooler accessories I’ve seen with these Mega Blok figures. It could be a weapon or shrink ray, you decide.

I think what is more important is what’s not here. Yes, Reed is one of the top scientist/inventors in the Marvel Universe. But he’s known most for ability to stretch and bend. And that is what is missing, a piece or two of an elongated limb would have been much more appreciated that a piece of tech.

Overall:

Yeah, he’s Mr. Fantastic. But hes’ not the Mr. Fantastic I’d want to get as a block figure. If I was a kid getting a blind packed figure, I’d want something actiony. Not the old scientist dude with a gun.

    Then again, it IS a gun, which should be enough to placate any children that get this one. I kinda like it, although I would not be hunt actively for Mr. Fantastic.

    Did you see that Lego got the Avengers? I picked up a set at Target this weekend, the one with Cap of course

    THE EYELINER! I can’t look at this figure the same way any more, it’s so absurd how much eyeliner he’s wearing!

    And the Avengers sets are AMAZING. I’ve reviewing them over on my site this week! And I’m linking to this site’s Wolverine review because I still never found that figure. Oh well, now I don’t need to!

    Mr. Fantastic’s contraption is pretty cool though.
