Dwalin the Dwarf Heroclix
If you have been listening to the Action Figure Blues Podcast, you may have heard me hand out an infamous AFB Red Card to the Dark Knight Rises Heroclix. I figured after that, I’d give them a second chance. That and when I saw “The Hobbit” package at the register it was an impulse buy.
This time I fared a little better. I got a Dwalin the Dwarf. Sure, he’s no Bilbo or Gandalf, but at least he’s not a nameless goblin.
I’m fairly impressed with the sculpt here. He’s carrying two pretty nice battle axes. The sculpt also has fair amount of detail on his belt, pack and boots considering the scale.
Speaking of scale, that’s where the paint goes awry. I’m not sure if he’s bald or has thinning hair, but I’m pretty sure Dwalin goes to the same barber as Homer Simpson. There are some random lines on the top of his head that I’m guessing are to represent thin hair. Honestly, I think they would have been better to leave it off. (See Rune Tattoo comment from JesterGoblin below. )
His paint woes don’t end there. The left eye on mine almost looks like it has a Clockwork Orange thing going on. I’ve been trying to not look directly at it.
Overall:
Well, I will say this Heroclix purchase was better than the last one. The sculpt is good, but the paint is a let down. I also realized how many of these I would have to get if all the dwarves are out there. Probably okay if you were playing the game, but I think I’ll hold off before they mine my wallet dry.

Wow. I would have never guessed that. Style would look better without them.
This one looks very interesting. I have always liked these miniature sculpts, even though the paintjobs are not quite as precise as I’d like. I would definitely wait and see if there are three-packs or faction sets in this line.
