The Mummy (Lego Monster Fighters)

I’d passed this Lego set up a couple times. I knew I’d get it eventually, though. Lego and a Mummy? How could I pass it up?

The Mummy is a generic mummy in this case. With glowing red eyes, this standard minifigure has risen from a pile of bricks to terrorize the night. As always, the paint is impeccable. as a bonus, it’s glow in the dark.

To square off against him is Ann Lee. She’s part monster fighter and part pilot. She reminds me of Kate Beckinsale’s character from Van Helsing. That’s probably due in no small part to the corset she’s wearing. The paint on both figure is front and back which is cool.  She even has some paint on her upper legs with tools of her trade.

Ann has a double sided head. One side is fairly plain. The other has a a one sided smirk that reminds me of Mrs. Nerd. To cover it up the extra face is a bit of red hair. The hair has been coiffed to hold one of her arrows. The hair has a soft pliable feel to it that makes it a bit different than regular Lego hair.

Speaking of her arrows, Ann has two. They oddly come attached to a sprue. They are ammo for similarly silver molded crossbow. I’m sure it’s a reused piece, but it fits the character.

To get around, Ann has small personal chopper that would make a Cobra Fang look safe. Essentially, it’s a seat, motor, and blade.

It’s a pretty spiffy assembly. I love these little control levers. The way they are mounted you can rotate them a bit, as well.  There’s even a storage hook for her crossbow on the front!

Well of course, our friend the Mummy isn’t going to escape her on foot. He’s got an undead chariot to transport him. There’s even an skeletal horse pulling it.

There are a lot of bricks in this thing. It’s a solid piece that could easily bring down a Lego elk.  The back has two spots to but the mummy, up high or down low. I’m not sure which I like better. you could pop the black angled brick out to make a little more room if you wanted.

The crux of the situation is the power gem mounted on a gold scorpion on the horse. The translucent purple piece has a eye of Horus on it to distinguish it from the other Monster Fighter set gems.

While this isn’t the most elaborate Lego set, the Mummy and Ann figures make this a set worth having to me. I even kind of dig the funky horse. The imagination of the Lego designers continues to amaze me. They come with intriguing little assemblies of  standard bricks that look like fun little transports.
