Hypervelocity Armor Iron Man
Continuing the moratorium against the new Iron Man 3 figures, I decided to go back and pick up another of the action figures released under the Concept Series segment in the Iron Man 2 collection by Hasbro.
I remember that at some point, I was unwilling to shell out money for non-movie Iron Man suits, thus I passed on this Hypervelocity Armor on several occasions, until the figure was nowhere to be found.
I was lucky enough to snag one recently from a store that has the habit of rotating inventory among their different locales for a rather reasonable price and I was pretty impressed with this figure.
The suit is definitely different from the armors seen in the movies, although it retains the signature elements that make it immediately recognizable as an Iron Man suit. The key difference in the design is that the hypervelocity armor has heavier gauntlets and angled plates covering the limbs and the overall outline reminds me a little of the way Iron Man is depicted in animation shows like Avengers: Earth’s Mightiest Heroes or Iron Man: Armored Adventures.
As a figure from the Iron Man 2 line, Hypervelocity Iron Man has all the articulation one could possibly want in the form of:
• Ball jointed neck.
• Pegged hinge shoulders.
• Pegged hinge elbows.
• Swivel forearm cuts.
• Floating torso.
• Pegged hinge hips.
• Upper thigh swivels.
• Double hinged knees
• Pegged hinge ankles.
As usual, the armor design does limit the range of movement on some of these joints but the overall result is an extremely versatile action figure that can achieve and hold a nice variety of dynamic poses.
One of the best things about the Hypervelocity suit is that since the color scheme doesn’t require the high gloss finish from other suits of armor, the appearance perfectly consistent all over the suit. The figure is made from a dark red plastic that has a certain metallic sheen to it, so the only painted parts are the champagne-colored armor plates and the blue bit for eyes and repulsors.
Like all of the Iron Man 2 figures sold on single cards, this Iron Man comes with an oversized spring-loaded launcher, a projectile, a display base and a trio or armor cards. I kind of like that this time the launcher was designed to roughly match the aesthetic of the armor, instead of being a generic-looking piece of tech.
As a whole, I am quite pleased about how this figure turned out and I might make an effort o track down some more of these Concept Series figures for my collection.
