Clone Trooper Hevy

Hevy (2)

Way back in the first season of the Clone Wars animated series we got introduced to a novice group of clones that repelled a Battle Droid invasion on a distant but vital outpost.

Hevy (7)Clone Trooper Hevy was a very prominent character in that episode, but it wasn’t up until season three that we got to see him again in a flashback episode, which is where Hasbro got the designs to produce this action figure.

The training armor looks similar to regular phase I armor at the front, but it appears to be made from lighter materials, with several components being substituted by padded plates instead of rigid armor plates.

The helmet is removable and underneath is the same clone face developed for squad mates Echo and Fives. The level of detail in the armor is nice, but at this point in time, Hasbro started playing around with reduced articulation designs for the line, which left Hevy with:

Hevy (3)• Ball jointed neck.

• Pegged hinge shoulders.

• Pegged hinge elbows.

• Swivel wrists.

• Swivel waist.

• Swivel hips.

• Pegged hinge knees.

Although this articulation model is actually very functional, it is a noticeable downgrade from the superbly articulated clones we got at the start of this line, which was one of the reason it took me quite some time to finally decide to get this figure.

The paint applications on Hevy are quite nice. The front of the figure looks rather mundane, despite the different marking and numerals stenciled over the armor but the back of the figure is much more colorful. All of these decorations are basically solid blocks of color, but the overall appearance is very faithful to the CGI models from the TV show.

Hevy (4)Hevy comes equipped with a black blaster carbine and one of those rotary heavy blasters that also double as a spring-loaded projectile launcher. In addition to these weapons, Hevy comes with a silver gray display base, a blue die and a character specific card to use in the Galactic Battle Game.

The only gripe I have about this figure does not even relate directly to the figure, but to the packaging. Thing is, because of the way Hevy comes packaged inside the clear plastic blister, both lower leg pieces appear to be bent slightly outwards, which I found really annoying despite this being easily corrected by dipping Hevy into a cup of hot water.

That aside, Hevy is a very neat action figure and I really like having the clone cadet training armor represented in plastic.

I've been collecting action figures since the original Kenner Star Wars days. Nowadays, I still collect pretty much anything that catches my eye.
