Thor (Battle Hammer)

Battle Hammer Thor

With the second Thor movie a few weeks away from opening at theaters, I still have not found a single merchandise item at local stores. However, I was not entirely denied, as I did acquire and action figure from the previous movie line.

Battle Hammer Thor (6)Forsooth, Battle Hammer Thor hails from the previously released line manufactured at the reputable workshop founded by the Hasssenfeld Brothers and ‘tis a patent proof of solid craftsmanship, despite their appalling lack of wit regarding the naming of their creations.

This incarnation of the Norse God of Thunder is garbed in clothes apt for merriment and sport, the powerful arms bared for all to see and foregoing the use of a cloak. The chest is covered with a light corselet that shows elaborate adornments made from iron, a trait also displayed on the trousers and the boots.

The visage of Thor is a faithful depiction of master thespian Christophorous Hemsworth, although I do find the overall stature of this plastic effigy to be not quite as outstanding as it should be, in concordance with the height of some of the other figurines in this collection.

Battle Hammer Thor (3)This plaything is poised to provide endless hours of joyful distraction, praised be the solid construction and the vast range of movement that can be accomplished by Thor’s limbs. Articulation is thus composed:

• Hinged peg neck.

• Pegged hinge shoulders.

• Pegged hinge elbows.

• Swivel wrists.

• Floating torso.

• Pegged hinge hips.

• Upper thigh swivels.

• Double-hinged knees.

• Pegged hinge ankles.

Verily, the amount and types of articulated joints is enough to allow Thor to adopt many a fighting stance with the aplomb and stability befitting a thunderous deity.

Battle Hammer Thor (7)The painted decorations on Thor are aptly applied. The line at the base of his hair is slightly uneven, but his gaze is limpid and true, and his clothes display bright silver and red detailing with nary a chip or blemish.

I do wish for the hairs to have been either darker of brighter, on account of the current hue to be very close in tone to the shade of paint used for the skin, causing beard and eyebrows to be lost amidst the color of Thor’s visage when gazed upon from a distance.

Battle Hammer Thor comes armed with a nicely detailed version of his trusty Mjölnir, but also comes with a makeshift sword-like piece that has a pair of revolving blades at the tip, akin to scissors. The hilt guard can be split in half and placed further along the blade to form something that looks akin to a larger axe or hammer.

Despite being saddled with such an inane contraption, Battle Hammer Thor revealed himself as a worthy addition to my collection.

I've been collecting action figures since the original Kenner Star Wars days. Nowadays, I still collect pretty much anything that catches my eye.
