ldd_clown_frontThe older I get, the more I like cute and creepy stuff. I’m not sure what that says about me. So when you combine that and my love of blind box figures, I couldn’t pass by the Living Dead Dolls Minis. The first one I picked was this guy, Schitzo. This is the regular version, there is a color variant of him in blue as well.

Let me say this dude is creepy looking. So creepy, Mrs. Nerd refuses to look at him. She doesn’t like carnies, so that might add to this.

From the front, I can’t really tell you why he’s so disturbing. He’s essentially a little kid in a clown suit. Okay, it’s a black and red clown suit, but still.

The make up isn’t Bozo standard for sure. It’s got some extra edges and such. The paint is applied well, crisp and clean. The head appears to be black molded with white over it, which you can tell. But there’s nothing to complain about.

The balloon is done in a clever way. It’s molded onto a wire. It comes as a separate piece and you peg it into his right hand which has a bit of sting sculpted to it. It really works to make it look like a helium balloon. Kudos to them for using wire appropriately sized wire to pull off the effect.

ldd_clown_backAnd why is his left hand behind his back? Glad you asked. He has a large wicked looking knife back there. So apparently, he’s drawing you in with a balloon to shank you. I love the fact it’s hiding back there. Most folks will never see it when it’s on display, but it is so cool knowing that significant detail is back there.

Overall:

These aren’t for everybody. I know that. It’s not like I’m a huge fan or own any of the regular Living Dead Dolls. But, I have to give Mezco credit for creating a line of darker things for us blind box fans. The only thing that would improve him is maybe some slightly more detail on his outfit.

Engineernerd Score: 95/100

That thing is really creepy, but cool nonetheless. I liked the comparative shot at the end, as these things keep surprising me on account of the level of detail they get into such a tiny figure.

  2. Engineernerd says:

Some of the others are even more detailed, but that’s another day 😀
