Iron Man MkV redux PHC

On one of my recent trips downtown, I found another version of the Iron Man Mark V suit, only, this was released as part of the Iron Man: The Armored Avenger line.

Even though the newer figure uses almost the same molds as the previous version
released in the Iron Man 2 line, it does present a fair bit of small differences that made me actually want to pick it up.

One thing that immediately pops out as different is the head sculpt. Wherehas the previous Mk.V had a smooth faceplate, the later version has thin panel lines etched in forming the characteristic  pattern we saw on the screen.

The body is the exact same mold, up to the upside-down chest reactor piece, and the removable left hand that can be replaced with a gripping hand instead of a closed fist. On the newer figure, the right hand seems to fit less tightly over the wrist stump, but the overall articulation is the same, consisting of:

Iron Man MkV redux (8)• Ball jointed neck.

• Pegged hinge shoulders

• Pegged hinged.

• Swivel wrists.

• Floating torso.

• Pegged hinge hips.

• Upper thigh swivels.

• Double hinged knees.

• Pegged hinge ankles.

As usual with most of these figures, the neck works only as a regular swivel because the post goes too deep into the head, and the arms can rotate freely, but cannot raise outwards to shoulder level because the sculpted shoulder pads get in te way.

Iron Man MkV redux (4)The paintjob is also  different this time, both in color and  application. Instead of using bright silver on it, this time Hasbro used a more subdued champagne hue to go along with a brighter shade of metallic red. There is also a difference in  which panels are painted in which color, with the later version more screen-accurate.

And lastly, the newer Mk.V did not have the enormous suitcase laden with action features. This time the suitcase is properly scaled and decorated in the same colors as the armor:  even though it doesn’t open and lacks any action feature, I actually like this piece a lot more than the original.

So, while this might not seem like an essential purchase to many, I do think that the small differences in this Mk.V release make it a definite improvement over it’s predecessor, and therefore, worth chasing it down.
