Qui-Gon Jinn & Obi-Wan Kenobi (Jedi Force)
It has been rather quiet on the Star Wars collectible front lately. Oh, there have been news and announcements made at every major trade show and convention regarding the Black Series on both their scales, but that means very little when none of that is actually available at stores.
That is partly the reason I picked up this Playskool set featuring the heroes from Star Wars Episode I, Jedi Master Qui-Gon Jinn and his Padawan Obi-Wan Kenobi.
Each character is sculpted in the simplified, kid-friendly style favored by the Playskool line.
Even though subtleties like different textures to simulate different materials are missing, each figure still shows just the right amount of movie-accurate details on them.
The articulation in both figures consists of pegged hinge shoulders, swivel necks, swivel wrists and swivel hips, were the legs are molded in one single piece.
Both Jedi have their lightsabers molded into their right hands, green for Qui-Gon and blue for Obi-Wan.
The really outstanding thing about this set is that it includes an actual fabric robe that can be worn by either character, although by default it is Qui-Gon who wears it.
The paint job on both figures is generally good where it counts, but the paint applications on the lightsaber hilts are rather sloppy, with silver and black splotches spilling onto the hand or the blade.
Despite that, I find that both Obi-Wan and Qui-Gon are a nice addition to my collection.
