A.I.M. Scientist

Generally speaking, I never actually though of Advanced Idea Mechanics as an organization that would have Captain America among their antagonists, but nevertheless, they got an action figure made of one of them within the Marvel Legends Infinites Series line devoted to the Captain America: Winter Soldier movie,

Of course, you can tell this AIM Scientist does not appear in the film just by looking at the decidedly comic book-inspired design.

The AIM Scientist is a completely new sculpture. The clothes display a lot more detail than his Marvel Universe version, but all of the distinctive elements of this costume are present and upgraded in some way, be it a subtle texture or additional wrinkles.

The overall appearance is that of baggy clothes, which helps a lot in hiding the articulation consisting of:

• Hinged peg neck.

• Pegged hinge shoulders.

• Upper biceps swivel.

• Double hinged elbows.

• Pegged hinge wrists.

• Hinged torso.

• Swivel waist.

• Pegged hinge hips.

• Upper thigh swivels.

• Double hinged knees.

• Pegged hinge ankles.

• Rocker feet.

Given the specific character design, the range of movement at the neck is not very ample, but still gets just enough freedom to achieve subtly nuanced poses.

One common thing with these recent figures is that the plastics they are made of feel somewhat more flexible, but this does not seem to cause any stability issues for this AIM guy.

AIM Scientist (8) The Scientist was molded entirely in bright yellow plastic with just a barely noticeable shading wash applied on top. The rest of the details are applied in solid black or silver paint and for the most part these applications are neat and precise.

The one nitpick I have regarding the paint is that Hasbro decided not to paint all of the buttons on this uniform in the same color, so you can see the buttons on his cuffs painted silver while the buttons on his chest are left in yellow. A similar thing happens with the removable black bandolier, where only the canisters sculpted on the front are painted.

Other than the bandolier, this AIM Scientist comes armed with a couple of weapons, a pistol and a larger rifle of futuristic design. Both pieces are molded in golden yellow plastic and sport painted details in black and blue.

Also included with this figure is the right arm to build the S.H.I.E.L.D. Mandroid BAF. The piece is made from silvery gray plastic and sports a couple of Gatling weapons mounted on the forearm.

Even though the AIM trooper design may not be everybody’s cup of tea, truth is this is a well-built figure of a type of character we don’t get to see very often, so, even if the BAF piece were not to be too much of an encouragement, the AIM Scientist still does come off as a fun action figure to have.
