Stormtrooper (Black Series)

Stormtrooper Black (6)It would be hard to argue that the most sought after figure in Hasbro’s third wave of figures from the 6-inch Star Wars Black Series is the Stormtrooper.

Even though I don’t think the scale is conducive to army building, people snatched multiples of this figures on sight, making rather stressful to find one for a while.

And with good reason too, as this is one of the better examples of what the line has to offer. As you would guess, a lot of the pieces used in the wave 1 Sandtrooper are used again here for the Stormtrooper, but there are actually a few newly molded pieces that set these troopers apart.

These Stormtrooper-specific pieces are the left kneepad sculpted on top of the calf, the front armor plate on the abdomen and the belt around his waist.

Stormtrooper Black (7)This early in the game, the production molds are still crisp and the sculpted details look sharp on the Stormtrooper. Articulation remains essentially the same as in the Sandtrooper, consisting of:

• Ball jointed neck.

• Pegged hinge shoulders.

• Upper biceps swivel.

• Double hinged elbows.

• Pegged hinge wrists.

• Floating torso.

• Pegged hinge hips.

• Upper thigh swivels.

• Double hinged knees.

• Pegged hinge ankles.

• Rocker feet.

Stormtrooper Black (5)Some of these articulation points have some limits imposed by the armor design, but the only outstanding issue with the Stormtrooper is that this time around the boxes attached to his belt get in the way of the upper leg joints, but overall mobility is still quite good.

The paintjob on the Stormtrooper is extremely clean, with only solid black blocks of color for the spaces in between the white armor plates and just small additional black and gray markings painted onto the helmet, all applied very neatly on my figure.

The Stormtrooper comes equipped with a E-11 blaster carbine and a DLT-20 blaster rifle, both molded in black plastic, with only the rifle having extra decoration in the form of silver highlights. The carbine can fit into the holster sculpted on the back of the belt.

So, in sum, the Black Series Stormtrooper is simply an awesome action figure to get, even as a one off item for people who don’t usually collect figures in this scale.

I've been collecting action figures since the original Kenner Star Wars days. Nowadays, I still collect pretty much anything that catches my eye.
