Rappel Fighter (Call of Duty)

This is one of the sets from Mega Bloks’ Call of Duty collection that immediately caught my eye when I found it at stores. Even though the Rappel Fighter (set #06865) has a decidedly low number of pieces (62), it turned out to be a very satisfying building experience.
The main piece is a three-story structure that suggests it is part of a modern building. It is essentially a handful of baseplates connected by smoke-colored panels and black girders, with a smattering of smaller details on top.

While the tower itself is very simple, let’s keep in mind that its entire purpose is to serve as something for the included figure to rappel down from.
The figure included uses the same molds we have seen in other CoD sets, only this time around the pieces were cast all in black plastic. The head selected for this character has a set of night-vision goggles sculpted on and a skull-like motif painted on the lower face, which suggests that the deco was inspired by the Call of Duty: Ghosts game.
The articulation on these figures is nothing short of impressive for the size, consisting of:

• Ball jointed head.

• Hinged peg shoulders.

• Hinged peg elbows.

• Swivel wrists.

• Swivel waist.

• Ball jointed hips.

• Hinged knees.

One thing I may have neglected to mention in my other Call of Duty reviews is that the waist joint is in fact limited because it has small stops built in that prevents the upper torso from swiveling 360°, which is actually fine, as far as I am concerned.

Being a construction set, there is not much to talk about in terms of paint. The only painted deco can be found in the head of the Ghost, where the night-vision lenses are painted bright green and the skull mask is painted in white. The paint app on the mask does look slightly rough, but it does seem to be intentional, so I won’t deduct points for this.
The Ghost comes fully equipped with a tactical vest with hard points to attach accessories, a backpack, a pair of bolt cutters, a leg strap, a small pouch and a rappelling line with hook, a carabiner attachment for his belt piece and a very clever hand brake.

The whole rappelling action works quite well, allowing the figure to slide down on its own weight depending on the amount of tension on the line, which can be regulated by the position of the arm.

As far as weaponry goes, this Ghost dude come armed with a flashbang grenade and a suppressed assault rifle. The rifle itself is modular and consists of separate pieces for the stock, barrel, suppressor, ammo magazine and grip.

I think I would have bought this set just because of the Ghost minifigure, but in the end I found this set to be very rewarding because it produces a larger-than-expected structure that not only looks good but also makes for a pretty decent playset.
