Engineernerd Builds a Gundam Kit Part 1

This is a new experience for me. So I thought I would take you guys along on the journey. I think calling these model kits is a bit of a misnomer. A model kit to me is something static. Gundam kits, I’m learning are essential DIY action figures.

First, I had to pick a scale and a kit. Now, since I had been watching Build Fighters, I really wanted one of those models. I had just started watching the second series, Build Fighters Try so I was open to some of those I had seen, as well.

I really wanted to go with the hero Gundam from the first series, the Build Strike. But I figured I would probably make some mistakes along the way so it may not be the best place to start. I also really love the idea of the Beargguy (San). Who wouldn’t want to build a giant armed mechanical teddy bear? I also knew that I didn’t want a real high end kit so I settled on the HGBF 1:144 series.

A search on that series lead to some interesting choices. The Build Strike (Full Package) was there. Beargguy was there. And then I saw the Powered GM Cardigan, the Gunpla that Fumina Hoshino used early in Build Fighters Try.

I really dug the bulky look of this mobile suit. Not only was it bulky, but it was well armed and had two shields mounted on articulated arms.

This was a Level 3 kit. The engineer in me said, I have a technical degree so I can handle this. In retrospect, I should have maybe started with a Level 2 kit. So, your mileage may vary.

Anyway. That’s Part 1. Essentially, I picked and ordered a kit. I expect some of these posts will vary in length. Some will be longer, some shorter. Essentially, I’m going to try to document my each of my working sessions with a post.

It is always interesting watching other people descend into model-building madness. I look forward to your progress in this endeavor. 😉

These posts will be more therapy than anything else. Also, I can tell Mrs. Nerd that I’m using the model to build content.
