Joker (Arkham Origins)

The other day, while I was taking some photographs of my recent Batman action figures, it came to me that I don’t had much in terms of enemies for my caped crusaders.

Sure, I got the Imaginext Joker from the 2-pack, and I still have my old Kenner Joker from the 1989 movie somewhere, but I was missing any proper 3.75-inch scale version of the Clown Prince of Crime.

A rapid look at Amazon and I found this version of the Joker from the Arkham Origins videogame, sold under Mattel’s DC Comics Multiverse banner.

The Arkham Origins Joker figure doesn’t quite match the look from the digital model featured in the game, but there is no mistaking who this character is. The overall Joker physique is thin and gaunt, and there is not a lot of sculpted detail anywhere on the garments but the overall shapes look correct at a glance.

You can see some etched lines simulating seams on the coat, but there is not a lot of wrinkles or textures on the body. The head sculpt is way more interesting to look at, as this version of the Joker has very striking facial features that make good use of the paint applications.

Articulation for this Joker action figure is as follows:

• Barbell mounted neck.

• Pin & disk shoulders.

• Hinged elbows.

• Swivel wrists.

• Swivel waist.

• Pin & hinge hips.

• Lower thigh swivels.

• Hinged knees.

The neck joint actually functions as a normal swivel because the post goes way too far inside the head. Furthermore, none of the limbs can actually bend too far in and the non-removable ruber coat limits somewhat the range of movement of the legs but there is just enough articulation to get some decent poses out of this little guy.

The paint job on the Joker is good, but not spectacular. The hairline on my figure could have been neater and the lipstick straighter, but the deep shading on the eyes works really well with the underlying sculpture.

This Joker action figure comes with no accessories whatsoever, although his right hand was sculpted in a gripping pose. The great thing about figures in this scale is that you can borrow from myriad different sources, so my Joker will not have to be unarmed on my shelf.

I am quite satisfied with this version of Joker. It does look modern, but also classic enough to work with (or opposite) any version of Batman in my 3.75-inch collection.
