Abomination

I have to say that I had no knowledge of Abomination prior to the second Hulk movie, from a couple of years ago. I am aware that there were action figures based on the movie designs at the time, but as a whole, the associated toy line was a big pass for me.

However, Abomination got a reprieve this year in Marvel Universe Series 5, and this time he is depicted in a comic-book style.

Abomination uses the same body mold we have seen used already for Rhino, except for the feet and the head. One thing that I find a little bit distracting is that the feet are sculpted displaying only two toes, but the hands are five-fingered.

I get that those are the same hand molds Hasbro developed for the more recent Hulk figures, but I can’t shake the feeling that toes and fingers should be the same quantity in most living organisms, but I guess you never know what to expect with gamma ray-induced mutation.

The head sculpt is very detailed and a great depiction of the character. His facial expression is simply perfect and the lines and ridges match the detail sculpted onto the body. Despite being a very bulky character,

Abomination got a lot of useful points of articulation, in the form of:

• Ball jointed neck.

• Pegged hinge shoulders.

• Pegged hinge elbows,

• Swivel wrists.

• Floating torso.

• Pegged hinge hips.

• Pegged hinge knees.

• Pegged hinge ankles.

• Rocker feet.

One thing I like about this body sculpt is how well it hides the joints, yet allows for a pretty ample range of movement despite the inherent volume of the limbs. also, the joints feel nice and tight, allowing Abomination to easily stand on one foot by himself.

While I liked the paintjob Hasbro gave to Rhino, the paint job on Abomination is absolutely stellar, even though it is not that complex. Abomination was molded in olive green plastic, and given a really nice, warm color gradient going from very dark green to a much lighter hue on the face and torso.

The face displays a good balance of dark shadows and soft highlights on the raised bits of the skin.The teeth are nicely detailed and the eyes were painted in a pale metallic gold color that really stands out from the deeply recessed eye sockets.

Abomination comes with no accessories at all, but it’s not like he actually needed any, considering his hands are sculpted as closed fists.

Supposedly, this figure does have a variant, A-Bomb, but given Hasbro’s track record in this regard, it is not known if it will actually be available.

I am extremely satisfied with Abomination. It is a really fun action figure and as an added bonus, it is also nice to get a character from the Hulk’s gallery of villains.
