One of the aspects I like most about collecting the Marvel Universe line is that characters with unusual bulk and design get released on a fairly regular basis, which adds a nice amount of variety to any action figure display.
One such a figure is Rhino, one of the most iconic Spider Man villains as far as I am concerned. Rhino is part of the Marvel Universe Series 5 line-up, and he is possibly the outstanding character in his wave.
Rhino has had action figures made previously, but this one is surely among the best. Rhino is almost a completely new sculpture, covered in textures from the tip of his horn to his hooves.
The facial expression is filled with rage and the overall body proportions fit the character very well. Although the hands do have suitable texture sculpted on them, I think they are the same mold that was used for a previously released Hulk.
Despite his bulk, Rhino is very well articulated with:
• Ball jointed neck.
• Pegged hinge shoulders.
• Pegged hinge elbows.
• Swivel wrists.
• Floating torso.
• Pegged hinge hips.
• Pegged hinge knees.
• Pegged hinge ankles.
• Rocker feet.
Out of these, the rocker feet are simply the most useful set of joints for this character. The feet are wide enough to allow Rhino to stand on one foot unassisted even on dynamic poses, despite his obvious bulk.
The paintjob on Rhino is pretty decent, although not quite perfect. The edge of his mask is slightly uneven, although the mouth and the eyes are painted quite neatly.
Despite being molded entirely in gray plastic, Rhino got quite a bit of paint on top, consisting in a darker gray shading wash. The legs on my figure seem to have been covered with a rather thick coat of dark gray paint and then wiped off to leave the raised points almost devoid of color.
Rhino comes with no accessories whatsoever, although it is not like he would actually need anything extra to indulge in a rampage and besides, his hands are sculpted as rolled fists anyway.
Bottom line, Rhino is a really great action figure and a definite must-buy if you have the chance.
