I've been collecting action figures since the original Kenner Star Wars days. Nowadays, I still collect pretty much anything that catches my eye.

Super Shield Captain America

Super Shield Captain America

Super Shield Captain America is intended to be from the Ultimates continuity, as attested by the slightly more down-to earth attire. The overall level of detail is excellent, with good body proportions and the upper torso scale texture, along with the seams and straps added to the rest of the costume.

Weequay Skiff Guard

Weequay Skiff Guard

One of the last figures from the Star Wars Vintage Collection is one I had been waiting to get for quite some time. The vintage Kenner Weequay was one I really liked from my childhood, because it was one of those figures whose arms were made in a pose that was not just straight down.

Spartan Mk. VI

Spartan Mk. VI

The Spartan I’m reviewing today is somewhat unusual. You’ll see, when McFarlane Toys started doing figures for the Halo: Reach game, they changed the scale slightly, so all of the figures they had released previously for Halo 3 ended up being shorter than the new ones.

Shae Vizla

Shae Vizla

Like Darth Malgus, Shae Vizla (VC101) is another character from the Star Wars: The Old Republic online game. She appears for the first time in the same trailer video where Malgus debuted, infiltrating the upper reaches of the Jedi Temple on Coruscant and keeping at bay the non-Jedi security forces inside.

UNSC Warthog Combat Edition (Halo 4)

One vehicle that had to be included in Jada Toys’ lineup for the Halo 4 line is the Warthog. Jada produced this vehicle in a couple different scales, both in the Combat Edition and High Gloss finish.

Clone Commander Wolffe (Phase 2 Armor)

Clone Commander Wolffe (Phase 2 Armor)

Clone Commander Wolffe (CW17) is another of the “new” characters that made it into Hasbro’s The Clone Wars assortment. The character is relatively prominent because he is the commander of the clones serving under Jedi Master Ploo Koon, a character that is voiced by none other than TV series producer/director Dave Filoni.

2012 Year in Review

2012 Year in Review

2012 was a fairly uneven, yet varied, year for me, collecting-wise. I expected a much more exciting start of the year with the release of Episode I in 3D, but that just didn’t pay off for me.

Mandalorian Speeder

Mandalorian Speeder

The inclusion of the Mandalorians back in the second season of the Clone Wars CGI show caused some stir because it practically tore down most of what author Karen Traviss had been writing about them ever since the publication of her Republic Commando novel.

Spartan JFO (Series 6)

Spartan JFO (Series 6)

McFarlane toys released a JFO Spartan (JFO stands for Joint Fires Observer) as part of their sixth series of figures for the Halo: Reach line. Even though this Spartan was intended as an exclusive to Walgreen’s in the USA, everywhere else he seems to ship with the regular assortment of figures, mine bought from a Sears store in Mexico City.

Cosmic Spear Loki

Cosmic Spear Loki

Loki is one of those Marvel villains I never cared much for. That is, until the Thor movie came along and director Kenneth Brannagh added quite some depth to the character played by Tom Hiddlestone

Clone Commander Fox (CW18)

One staple in the current Clone Wars line by Hasbro is (obviously) the incluision of Clone Troopers in their various designations and ranks in every wave.

Jun (Series 6)

If there is something I regret about collecting the Halo: Reach action figures made by McFarlane Toys, is playing the long game to get the helmeted version of Jun released in Series 3, which to this day is still missing from my collection.

Brute Major

Brute Major

At a glance, the military ranks in the alien Covenant from the Halo series of games is quite simple. While the ranks system of the Elites and the Grunts tends to get cluttered by very specific specialties, the Brutes seem to do fine by just going with Minors, Majors and Chieftains

Hulk

Hulk

Once upon a time, way back in the 80’s, I remember standing in line at a supermarket and perusing one of those magazines stores like to keep handy at the checkout. In there was an interview with Lou Ferrigno. Nothing particularly noteworthy, except there was a shot of the actor holding what I though was the most amazing Hulk Action Figure I had ever seen …

Savage Opress (CW3)

Whatever your stance is in the “Bring Back Maul” issue, one of the cooler side effects of the whole thing was the introduction of Savage Opress into the Clone Wars mythos.

Zarak

One of the cartoons I used to watch , back in the 80’s, was Dungeons & Dragons. The show was rather formulaic, following the adventures of a bunch of kids trying to get back home from D&D land.
