Thor (Shock Strike)
Even though I like Thor as a character, I didn’t get any of the movie-style action figures made of him back when his solo movie came out last year. I did consider getting the casual version of him, but the priority of getting that version never really rose above other concerns. So, when the Avengers line finally was announced I planned on finally getting a Helmsworth Thor, only to be stopped cold in my tracks by the reports of limited articulation.
Colonel Cracken (Millennium Falcon Crew)
With a whole half-wave devoted to characters from the deleted scenes in Return of the Jedi (included as an extra bonus in the Blu –ray release of the original film trilogy), it was inevitable that some of them would be generic background characters.
Ken
One thing I never really understood is why in Street Fighter Capcom decided to have two characters that played basically the same. Of course, I’m refering to Ryu and the subject of todays review, Ken.
Cobra Commander (Retaliation)
It sure seems like Cobra Commander is turning into the Darth Vader of GI Joe figures. Yet I keep buying them. Honestly, I was going to set this guy aside and try and flip him later. But it got the better of me. Appearance: Is this a screen accurate Cobra Commander from GI Joe: Retaliation? Who […]
Hulk (Gamma Smash)
The one figure that instantly repelled me from the Avengers line was Hulk, before I went to see the movie. Afterwards, I started to have a change of heart because, after all, the Hulk rocks. By the time I went back to the store, still undecided if I wanted the 4-inch scale version or the larger 8-inch version, there were no more Hulks whatsoever.
Lando Calrissian (Sandstorm Outfit)
It’s been quite a while since we got a Lando action figure with his skiff guard disguise. Back in the 80’s that version of Lando was among my favorites because he had a removable helmet and that was pretty uncommon then.
El Fuerte
El Fuerte is designed to be an homage to Lucha Libre, although the actual costume draws from several other sources, like Japanese and American wrestling tropes. A good deal of treatises can be written about the specific influences that can be seen on El Fuerte’s costume, but the thing that immediately grabbed my interest is that he is a masked wrestler.
Marauder Motorcycle & Sidecar
This is going to be a bit different. I’m going to post picture of the rather cool Motorcycle with sidecar from Marauder. But if you want to know what I thought you will have to listen to me discuss it on the Action Figure Blues Podcast. Click Here. (Tell them I sent you!) […]
Captain America (Shield Launcher)
Well, when the Avengers figure line started to show up at stores, I admit I was one of those bemoaning the diminished articulation Hasbro gave to these figures. However, after being exposed to the movie in theaters a couple of times, I convinced myself that I really wanted a figure from this line and […]
Leia Organa (Sandstorm Outfit)
Leia Organa (Sandstorm Outfit) was released in the second wave of figures for the Star ]Wars Vintage Collection (VC88) in 2012, but that doesn’t mean she’s a truly new product, even if the inspiration for this figure comes from the deleted scenes included as a bonus for the Blu-ray release of the Star Wars movies.
Abel
Well, I must confess I know next to nothing about the character whose action figure I’m reviewing today. After a quick dive into Wikipedia, it seems Abel made his first appearance in the game Super Street Fighter IV, and he is supposed to be the result of biological experimentation,
Thor (Ages of Thunder)
This version of Thor comes from a series of comics set before his exile to Earth and the stories portray him in a rather unflattering light, as something of a bully with a quick temper and a penchant for extreme violence.
Luke Skywalker (Hoth Outfit)
Hasbro had been promising a cold-weather Luke ever since they first announced a newly sculpted Taun Taun, over a year ago, and they pretty much delivered with their latest Luke Skywalker (Hoth Outfit) figure, numbered as 95th in the Star Wars Vintage Collection and released as part of the third wave of figures from 2012.
Ryu
One of the more easily recognizable characters from the Street Fighert games, Ryu is one of my favorite fighters thanks to the clean-cut character design and the ease of learning how to beat the game using him. Jazwares did a pretty good job of rekindling my interest in the character by including him in the starting line-up for their 4-inch Street Fighter action figure line.
Marauder Pistols
I fear I’m becoming addicted to all the fine items over at Marauder. There were a couple of new pistols in the just recently released series 6 from them. This made me think it was a perfect time to gather up some hand guns and try and see what I thought of them all. Tactical […]
Astonishing Wolverine
Other than Iron Man and Spiderman, the only other Marvel character that has had a comparable number of action figures made of, in recent years, has to be Wolverine. The figure I’m reviewing this evening is from the Marvel Universe Series 3, wave 16 and is none other than Astonishing Wolverine.
Raiden
Raiden is possibly the only character in the Mortal Kombat games to have a definite heroic disposition, since his goal is to thwart Shao Khan’s plans for dominating the Earthrealm. The character was inspired by the Three Storms, the evil enforcers from the John Carpenter film Big Trouble in Little China, a movie that borrowed and adjusted rather liberally elements of Chinese folklore.
GI Joe Magazine (Fall 88)
I will be 100% honest. I really only picked this up because I liked the cover art. Well, what I was really hoping was there was a story in the magazine related to the cover art. I never actually knew this magazine existed. In the pre-internet days, it seemed like every property would do something […]
Mr. Fantastic & Dr. Doom Minimates
I’ve said before that I’m not a huge Fantastic Four fan, yet I bought some more FF Minimates. I’ve always like Dr. Doom, and he’s what sold me on getting this marked down set. Mr. Fantastic: You may remember that not all that long ago I reviewed the blind bagged MegaBloks Mr. Fantastic. I was […]
