I wasn’t really expecting to see more of Hasbro’s Avengers line locally. I mean, the things seem to sell at a steady, albeit slow pace, but in my experience the stores in my city rarely order anything after the first wave of movie-related figures up until Christmas. With that in mind, it was very surprising to find Marvel’s Hawkeye hanging there on a peg the last time I went grocery shopping.
This Hawkeye is based on his movie appearance of course, In terms of detail; I’d say it does a good job at replicating the uniform he had in Avengers, although there are a few small discrepancies, like the missing left hand guard and some other minor details.
Hasbro cheated a little bit by having this head sculpted with the sunglasses on but the face looks good and it is pretty easy to find some resemblance to actor Jeremy Renner at a glance, despite the rather thick paint application. The head itself might be a smidgen too big, but still within the tolerable limits for the scale.
• Ball jointed neck.
• Pegged hinge shoulders.
• Pegged hinge elbows.
• Pegged hinge hips.
• Upper thigh swivels.
• Pegged hinge knees.
The movement range is a little better on Hawkeye, especially since the neck allows for some subtle tilting and the limbs are less bulky, but for such a dexterous character, he definitely should have come with wrist swivels at the very least.
The paint applications on Hawkeye are pretty good, but not perfect. On the uniform, the paint apps seem neat and there are a lot of intricate details painted, like the couple of SHIELD crests painted on his torso.
On his head things are not so neat, unfortunately. The flesh colored paint applied on his face is thick enough to clog the finer sculpted detail and there are a few missing spots along the hairline. The end result is still decent, but be sure to pick and choose the better-painted ones.
Hawkeye comes with two bows, a spring operated launcher that can be attached to any of the bows and three differently shaped bolts. While the bows and the launcher are all molded in black, the bolts are made from neon red plastic, which no doubt would be useful to locate any stray shot. The quiver on his back is non-removable and there are no extra scale-appropriate arrows included.
Now, even though I generally loathe these action accessories, I must concede that the launcher is kind of fun to mess around with, requiring a lot less skill than using a butterfly paperclip & rubber band bow.
Marvel’s Hawkeye is a pretty good action figure to get if you are already invested in this line, but if you have been avoiding the Avengers 4 inch figures, this is not the one figure that would make you go back and get the rest of them.
