Hydra Soldier (Marvel Legends Infinite Series)

Although Hydra, the criminal organization, is featured prominently in the second Captain America movie, truth is we don’t get to see them attired in an identifiably Hydra uniform.

However, in the first batch of figures released by Hasbro for the Marvel Legends Infinite Series promoting the premiere of Captain America: The Winter Soldier, they decided to give us an update of the comic book version of these guys.

The new Hydra Soldier uses a pretty generic, medium-build body mold already used for several Marvel characters.

The head sculpt is new, of course, as well as the yellow webgear and non-removable belt piece. The expression on the new head is a noticeably angry one, despite him wearing a mask that leaves just the lower half of his face exposed.

The articulation on this body mold is quite extensive and consists of:

• Hinged peg neck.

• Pegged hinge shoulders.

• Upper biceps swivel.

• Double hinged elbows.

• Pegged hinge wrists.

• Hinged torso.

• Swivel waist.

• Pegged hinge hips.

• Upper thigh swivels.

• Double hinged knees.

• Pegged hinge ankles.

• Rocker feet.

IS Hydra Soldier (10) If anything, the limbs on this figure seem to be made from a more pliable material than usual, although this Hydra Soldier retains a good amount of stability even on the more dynamic poses.

The paintjob on this Hydra goon is almost non-existent, as the figure was molded directly in dark green and yellow plastics. The only bits on the figure that sport paint applications are the head and the glove cuffs, although the accessories also got a few small details picked out with different colors.

This Hydra Soldier comes equipped with a couple of rather big guns; none of which are based on real life hardware. One of these seems to be a precision rifle, while the other sports a large cowl decorated with a painted Hydra crest. None of these weapons seem to be ergonomic, but both can be held more or less effectively by the figure.
Also included with the Hydra soldier is the left arm of the SHIELD Mandroid Build-A-Figure. This piece is made in silvery gray plastic and seems to be tooled from the Iron Monger BAF from last year’s Iron Man 3 line. The Mandroid’s arm has a very large blade affixed to the wrist and it is decorated with bright silver, yellow and black paint.

Although I have a strict “No Army Building” rule when it comes to 6-inch scale figures, the Hydra Soldier is definitely one for which I could make an exception for, especially considering its potential for customization.
