Ultimate Goblin (7)

Ultimate Goblin (8)Well, after getting all of the figures in the Spider-Man Marvel Legends Infinite Series, I ended up with more than enough pieces to complete the Build-A-Figure, which is none other than the Ultimate’s version of the Green Goblin.
Although I don’t read any of the Ultimate comic book titles, Ultimate Green Goblin looked like a pretty interesting character, starting with the fact that Hasbro used a retooled version of the molds they made for the Hulk action figure that came out a couple of yeas ago for the Avengers movie line.

The base Hulk body is still very recognizable despite the changes made to the molds. These consist in sculpting bone spikes jutting out from the shoulders, forearms and elbow pieces, along with clawed hands and feet. The head sculpt is also a new, with a pair of big horns and a malevolent grin on the Goblin’s face.

Ultimate Goblin (5)Articulation is the same found in the Movie Series Hulk, consisting of:

• Ball jointed head.

• Pegged hinge shoulders.

• Upper biceps swivel.

• Double hinged elbows.

• Pegged hinge wrists.

• Floating torso.

• Pegged hinge hips.

• Upper thigh swivels.

• Double hinged knees.

• Pegged hinge ankles.

• Rocker feet.

Ultimate Goblin (3)Although the feet design does not allow the ankles to bend enough forward, Ultimate Goblin still gets quite a nice amount of posing options in him thanks to his balanced center of gravity and the strength of his joints.

The paint applications on this Ultimate Goblin are very few, but not without issues. The coverage and application of blue paint on the pants does match nicely the hue of the plastic used for the thighs of the figure, but on the bone spikes and the horns the edges could have been cleaner and the coverage more even.

The face has additional painted details on the eyes and mouth, improving a lot the appearance of the figure. The eyes have golden pupils and are framed with the same slight reddish color used for the gums.

Ultimate Goblin (6)The Ultimate Goblin has a trio of flame attachments that go over his back and forearms, which I am not sure if they are meant to be always on or are simply a manifestation of a powered-up state. In any case, these flame add-ons look really nice and hold on to the figure reasonably well, although over time they tend to sag a little bit.

The merit of buildable, “bonus” action figures within any given series is always a subject open to discussion, but if you are in the market for an imposing brute with a not-too-subtle daemonic disposition, this Ultimate Goblin should fit the bill perfectly.
