Cobra Trooper
This is a bit strange, I’ve never reviewed a repaint of a figure that I’ve reviewed before. But here we go. This version is carded as Cobra Infantry. The original figure I reviewed was more in line with the vintage line, calling the figure Cobra (The Enemy). You can read that review here. Appearance: Why […]
Col. Miles Quaritch
Colonel Miles Quaritch was the Chief Security Officer at the RDA Hellgate site on Pandora, and even though he didn’t have the physical advantage over the native Na’vi, he made up for it by being a very driven, efficient military commander. If only those blue monkeys had had the decency of rolling over and die…
Avatar Grace Augustine
Avatar Grace Augustine is part of the second wave of 1:18 scale (3.75 inch) figures devoted to the Avatar movie directed by James Cameron. Dr. Augustine (played in the film by Sigourney Weaver) is head of the Avatar Research Program on Pandora and this figure represents her in her Na’vi hybrid form.
“The Amazing Spiderman – The Mark of the Man-Wolf” Book & Record
I know some of the kids out there are saying, “Records?” But yes, I’m old enough to have had child hood that involved small spinning discs that were of the non-digital variety. Back in our day, this was about as interactive as entertainment got. This was long before Leap Frog and the kinds of interactive toys that are around today.
Viperwolf Attack with Avatar Jake Sully
This time I’m reviewing my first boxed set from Mattel’s Avatar line. The Viperwolf Attack with Avatar Jake Sully set was released in 2010 as part of the DVD/BluRay launch tie-in for the James Cameron’s Avatar movie. The set contains a new version of Jake Sully in his Avatar body, two Viperwolves, a couple of accessories for Jake to use and a Level 3 iTag base plate.
Avatar Jake Sully Warrior
Mattel released Avatar Jake Sully Warrior as part of the second wave of figures in the toy line for James Cameron’s Avatar movie. The figure is based on the warrior garb he dons in his guise as Toruk Makto (a sort of Messianic figure in Na’vi lore charged with the unification of the clans in times of great sorrow).
Engineernerd’s 5 Favorite Android Apps
We resisted getting “smart” phones for a long time. Why? Probably because Mrs. Nerd and I are from the generation where you only used your cell phone sparingly and didn’t see the point. A phone is for talking right?
Avatar Norm Spellman
This figure is the Avatar Norm Spellman, also from the second wave of 1:18 scale (3.75 inch) Mattel figures devoted to the Avatar movie directed by James Cameron. In the movie Norm arrives on Pandora alongside Jake Sully, although unlike Jake, Norm has spent most of his adult life preparing for this off-world assignment as a member of Dr. Augustine’s Avatar Research Program.
Titanium Man – Iron Man 2
Finally! Some more foes for Iron Man & War Machine are staring to show up in stores. I managed to score a Titanium Man recently.
“The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo” Film Review
The film is based on a trilogy of Swedish novels. They were written by Stieg Larsson, who unfortunately, passed away shortly after completing the trilogy. The novels have became world wide bestsellers. As of this writing, the third book was just released in hardcover here in the States.
Aang in Avatar State
An action figure made by a small company as a tie-in for a movie project inspired by a Nickelodeon cartoon; and the movie was directed, written and produced by someone with a very questionable track record at the box office. Pretty much the definition of long odds, in my book, but How does this toy Aang fare?
Leesub Sirln
In fact, there are a lot of tiny details that bother me in this figure, like the skimpy silver outfit, the pink plastic skin or the oversized cranium. Oddly, putting all of these together doesn’t immediately translate into a plastic abomination; so further analysis might be in order.
4A-7 Spy Droid (Clone Wars)
Seen only in the Star Wars: The Clone Wars movie from 2008 and released by Hasbro in the third wave of figures from their Clone Wars line, 4A-7 appears to be an Arakyd Industries RA7 series droid, although from the neck down the basic structure is that of a Cybot Galactica’s 3PO series protocol droid.
Iron Monger – Iron Man 2
While I was waiting for Iron Man 2 to come out, I thought it would be a good time to revisit the first film on DVD. I was surprised to find out there was a good part of that I hadn’t remembered. One thing that I didn’t forget was the battle royal at the end between Iron […]
Nien Nunb (B-Wing Pilot)
Hasbro released Nien Nunb in 2009 as part of the fourth wave of red-carded Legacy Collection figures, a wave inspired in the characters from the Episode VI: Return of the Jedi movie.
Summit City Comic Con 2010
The adventures of the Promodiva and Engineernerd at Fort Wayne’s Comic Convention.
Iron Man Mark VI – Iron Man 2
This was actually one of the first of the Iron Man 2 figures I bought. Why did I wait so long to review it? Well, I really wanted to wait until I saw the film to understand if there was really anything different in this suit.
Iron Man Mark V – Iron Man 2
The concept behind the Mk. 5 Iron Man armor is fairly simple. Regular Iron Man armor is not that easy to transport nor conceal, therefore Stark developed a bare-bones version that can be lugged around in the form of a large suitcase.
Perseus & Pegasus
At the time of “Clash of the Titans” release, Mattel released a limited line of action figures and accessories based on the film. One of these items was a boxed set of Perseus and Pegasus.
