Spider-Girl
The Marvel Legends segment dedicated to promote the second Amazing Spider-Man movie provided us with a couple of figure variants right from the start. A couple of those were sold under the moniker “Urban Sirens”, one being the Black Cat and the other being the subject of today’s review, Spider-Girl.
Spider-Girl is one of those characters I really know nothing about, but the visual aspect of the figure was enough of an encouragement for me to pick it up on sight.
For a start, she wears a black costume that is very similar to the original black Spider-Man symbiotic suit, which I always liked. Secondly, the sculpture on her is really nice and looks like an excellent base to develop other female characters with leaner physiques in the future.
With all of Spider-Girl being a new sculpture, the only unique piece would be the head, which displays an open-top mask with large white lenses and a nicely dynamic hair sculpt. The lower portion of her face is bare, showcasing really pretty facial features.
The rest of the suit is the usual skin-tight fare, meaning it has no textures whatsoever. The overall build is lean but fit, and articulation is well integrated into the sculpture.
And Spider-Girl does have a nice amount of articulation. Usually, female characters don’t get as many joints as male superheroes, but this time around Spider-Girl got:
• Pegged hinge neck.
• Pegged hinge shoulders.
• Pegged hinge elbows.
• Pegged hinge wrists.
• Floating torso.
• Pegged hinge hips.
• Upper thigh swivels.
• Double hinged knees.
• Upper calf swivels.
• Pegged hinge ankles.
• Rocker feet.
Even though the range of motion on her hips may not be all that great, the flat-feet sculpt and the rocker ankle joints help immensely in achieving dynamic poses, while the swivel cuts above and below the knees aid in maintaining the lines painted on her suit properly aligned.
Spider-Girls paintjob is simple and elegant. Most of her was molded in black plastic, with the eyes and spider design applied with a pearly white color. The skin tone is a little bit strong, in my opinion, but the nicely painted lips help in adding definition to her face.
The paint applications are generally clean all around, although on my figure there were a few spots on the white spider design with uneven coverage and the edges of the lenses are not perfectly smooth but overall, I was pretty happy with Spider-Girl’s appearance.
Spider-Girl does not come with accessories of any kind, although her box includes the torso piece required to complete the Ultimate Green Goblin BAF.
