EVA-01 Mini Revoltech
Evangelion has to be one of the most influential anime shows created in the last 20 years. The full series name is Neon Genesis Evangelion and at the time it premiered in 1995, it represented a rather novel take on classic Japanese giant monster shows, where you’d have some sort of giant monster attacking a city in each episode with a group of heroes defending against them using their own enormous fighting machines called EVA Units.
Cobra H.I.S.S. (Vintage)
As one of the first Cobra vehicles, the H.I.S.S. tank has earned a spot in most GI Joe fans hearts. The iconic battlefield conveyance of “The Enemy” has remained relatively unchanged until it’s recent redesign. In theory, it’s name translates to HIgh Speed Sentry. In reality, it was a stylized tank for Cobra to motor […]
Captain America (Super Combat)
Captain America might be the movie I’m most excited to see this year. I just hope we get some action figure goodness out of it. Yeah, I know Thor and Green Lantern are out. And I know Transformers is out. I just happen to like World War II stuff. And World War II stuff with […]
Luke Skywalker (Dagobah Landing)
If there ever was a figure from the Vintage Collection I didn’t want to buy outright, it’s this version of Luke Skywalker (Dagobah Landing). The reason, basically, was that the figure is a kitbash made from the Snowspeeder Pilot Luke Skywalker figure with newly sculpted head and forearms, and I’d rather get the ones that are completely new sculpts.
Coil Con – Coming Soon!
Since new Joe figures are few and far between these days, I thought I’d use this week’s Joe Wednesday to give a shout out to Coil Con. Coil Con is a Midwest GI Joe swap meet. The cool thing is that it’s happening here in my state of Indiana, which is pretty darn cool if you […]
Wolverine (X-Men Uniform)
Wolverine action figures are not exactly scarce nor hard to find, thanks to the deluge of figures left-over from the X-Men Origin: Wolverine line, but the one version from Marvel Universe that really caught my eye was the revision of the figure sporting the Jim Lee designed Blue Team uniform.
EVA-00 Mini Revoltech
Kaiyodo is a Japanese company that has made a name for itself manufacturing toys and other collectibles based on popular anime shows. Kaiyodo is also the manufacturer of the Revoltech line, which consists on action figures that use a very specific style of articulation.
Retro Review – Beast (Marvel Super Hero Showdown)
While I applaud Hasbro for taking the time to make action figures based on rather obscure characters in the Marvel Universe line, sometimes it feels like they are neglecting some fairly obvious choices, like say, the complete original X-Men roster.
General Lando Calrissian
The one thing I’ve been noticing about poor action figure distribution is that I usually end up getting whatever figures eventually trickle down at retail, even if the character in question isn’t even on my short list. Thus, I ended up picking up the new General Lando Calrissian (VC47) figure from the Vintage Collection by Hasbro.
Black Canary
Over the past few weeks, I have been kind of extolling the virtues of the improved articulation on the later Infinite Heroes roster. However, it would be good to remember there is a reason this line flopped in the first place, despite hitting the streets well before Hasbro’s Marvel Universe figures did at several locations.
War Machine (Mega Bloks)
I have to say as a character, I know very little of War Machine other than what I saw in Iron Man 2. However, that hasn’t seemed to keep from latching on to him as my Iron Man armor of choice. I got very lucky with this one. There was one open empty bag when […]
Salacious Crumb (Star Wars Buddies)
Last week I checked out what may be the best representation from the “Star Wars Buddies” first wave. This time I’m looking at one that is less than perfect, Salacious Crumb. Jabba’s little cackling pet has his fans, and I’m sure some folks love him, though. Let me get this out of the way. I think […]
Black Adam
Basically this is magical Superman dressed in black. Seriously, one look at this guy and you know two things. One: he’s a villain (the black and gold outfit is a dead giveaway) and two: he’s a Shazam! related character …
Harvester (Terminator: Salvation)
The Harvester is huge in terms of 1:18 scale toys, measuring 16” tall and almost as wide. Even thought the toy is actually underscaled compared to it’s movie counterpart, it is still quite an imposing toy …
Spiderman (Mega Bloks)
Thanks to Jestergoblin, I now am developing a bigger interest in minifigures. I have to say the little blind bagged Lego figures are just darn fun. When I saw the Marvel Megabloks single blind bags, I figured I’d take a chance. The first figure I happened to get was a plain Spiderman. It doesn’t get […]
Wicket the Ewok (Star Wars Buddies)
In the late 90’s the country was swept up in a toy buying craze. Not Star Wars Action Figures, but people were nuts over Beanie Babies. Their collectors were rabid and voracious. To get in on this fad, Kenner brought Star Wars Buddies to the toy aisles. Small cute plush versions of some of the […]
Free Comic Book Day – An Engineernerd WOS Comic
I have to say I’m pretty excited for Summit City Comic Con this year. Mrs. Nerd and I had a blast last year, and this year’s event promises to be bigger and better. If you are in the Northeast Indiana area on June 18th, it’d be worth the visit. Also, I’ve been hyped upon comics […]
Jungle Viper
Jungle Viper. The concept seems simple enough. A Cobra troop outfitted to be effective in a jungle environment. To me, this brings to mind a dude with dark camo and some lightweight armament, maybe a machete or rope. I’d even throw a lion in there. What we got, however, wasn’t that. In the package, I […]
Heroclix War Machine
This is going to be a bit of a short one. I’m not a Heroclix player, but I couldn’t pass up a mini War Machine. This particular Marvel hero was a Free Comic Book Day 2o1o give away. My local shop, must have had a few left over and put them out this year to get […]
Weequay (Skiff Master)
Even though this specific character never had an action figure made back in the Kenner years, Hasbro deemed the Weequay (Skiff Master) worthy of being released as part of the Star Wars Vintage Collection in 2011.
