Thor (Shock Strike)

Thor (Shock Strike)

Even though I like Thor as a character, I didn’t get any of the movie-style action figures made of him back when his solo movie came out last year. I did consider getting the casual version of him, but the priority of getting that version never really rose above other concerns. So, when the Avengers line finally was announced I planned on finally getting a Helmsworth Thor, only to be stopped cold in my tracks by the reports of limited articulation.

Captain America (Shield Launcher)

Captain America (Shield Launcher)

Well, when the Avengers figure line started to show up at stores, I admit I was one of those bemoaning the diminished articulation Hasbro gave to these figures.  However, after being exposed to the movie in theaters a couple of times, I convinced myself that I really wanted a figure from this line and […]

Thor (Ages of Thunder)

Thor (Ages of Thunder)

This version of Thor comes from a series of comics set before his exile to Earth and the stories portray him in a rather unflattering light, as something of a bully with a quick temper and a penchant for extreme violence.

Astonishing Wolverine

Astonishing Wolverine

Other than Iron Man and Spiderman, the only other Marvel character that has had a comparable number of action figures made of, in recent years, has to be Wolverine. The figure I’m reviewing this evening is from the Marvel Universe Series 3, wave 16 and is none other than Astonishing Wolverine.

Mr. Fantastic & Dr. Doom Minimates

Mr. Fantastic & Dr. Doom Minimates

I’ve said before that I’m not a huge Fantastic Four fan, yet I bought some more FF Minimates. I’ve always like Dr. Doom, and he’s what sold me on getting this marked down set. Mr. Fantastic: You may remember that not all that long ago I reviewed the blind bagged MegaBloks Mr. Fantastic. I was […]

Mr. Fantastic (Mega Bloks)

Mr. Fantastic (Mega Bloks)

I’ve said it before, I’m not a huge Fantastic Four fan. I wasn’t trying to get Mr. Fantastic, but the I couldn’t figure out what the gun thing was in the darn package. Appearance: I’m sure this is based on a more modern comic book appearance that the ones I’m familiar with. Essentially, except for […]

Marvel Legends Thor, Hope, & Steve Rogers At Planned Banter

Sure Planned Banter is a great podcast. They are like younger brothers I never had, except into stuff that I like. But, Richard has been posting some really great action figure reviews on the site. If you are podcast subscriber, you might be missing this. I wanted to take the time to point out his […]

Magneto (Mega Bloks)

Magneto (Mega Bloks)

I have to admit Magneto wasn’t the figure I was going for when I picked him. I was trying for Silver Surfer. I didn’t realize Magneto had a cape and thought it was the surf board. Appearance: Magneto is one of those characters I’ve never quite understood the look of. Sometimes he’s really ripped and […]

Captain America (Heroic Age)

Captain America (Heroic Age)

After the “death” of the original Captain America in the comics, there were more than a few candidates to occupy his place, but ultimately the mask and shield ended up in the care of another comic book character that has had some experience returning from death, James Buchanan Barnes, a.k.a. Bucky, a.k.a. Winter Soldier.

Thing & Doombot Minimates

Thing & Doombot Minimates

While I typically don’t go out of my way to get Minimates, if I can get a good deal on them I’ll pick them up. Such is the case here. The Doombot and Thing were on sale. Honestly, I couldn’t resist the sculpted out version of The Thing. Doombot: Dr. Doom is one of the […]

Gambit (Marvel Select)

Gambit (Marvel Select)

If you have read any of my past Marvel reviews, you may have guessed I was a Gambit fan. I’ve reviewed the older Toy Biz Gambit and the Minimates version previously. So it should be no surprise when Figure of the Day offered the Marvel Select one, I’d snap him up. Appearance: This is full […]

Right off the gate, I knew that the one figure I would like to have, from the 2011 Thor line by Hasbro, was the Deluxe Frost Giant

Whiplash (Mega Bloks)

Whiplash (Mega Bloks)

I thought since there was a new series of Marvel Mega Bloks figures, I’d tempt fate and get one. I ended up with Whiplash from Iron Man 2. I needed a bad guy to go with War Machine and Spidey, so it’s not all bad. Appearance: Any likeness to Mickey Rourke is purely coincidental. That’s […]

Essential Captain America Volume 1

Essential Captain America Volume 1

Okay. I’m sorry. I didn’t go see Captain America in theaters. Wanted to, just never made it. Now that I have that out of the way, let’s get on with the show. Before the film came out, I bought Captain America Essentials Volume 1. I wanted to do a little reading up on a hero […]

Crossbones is possibly the most striking figure released in the second wave of figures for the Captain America: the First Avenger movie line.

Captain America (Super Combat)

Captain America (Super Combat)

Captain America might be the movie I’m most excited to see this year. I just hope we get some action figure goodness out of it. Yeah, I know Thor and Green Lantern are out. And I know Transformers is out. I just happen to like World War II stuff. And World War II stuff with […]

Heroclix War Machine

Heroclix War Machine

This is going to be a bit of a short one. I’m not a Heroclix player, but I couldn’t pass up a mini War Machine. This particular Marvel hero was a Free Comic Book Day 2o1o give away. My local shop, must have had a few left over and put them out this year to get […]

Ghost Rider (Marvel Universe)

Ghost Rider (Marvel Universe)

Ghost Rider has always had that seventies comic book feel to me. The lone motorcycle riding antihero who finds himself entangled with elements of the supernatural. To be a popular book in the seventies it seemed like you had to have some sort of other worldly weirdness going on. While not as well known as […]

Guardian (Toy Biz ToyFare Exclusive)

Years later when ToyFare offered an exclusive figure of Guardian in 1998, you know I couldn’t pass it up. Mailed in a plain white box, this Canadian hero is one of very few superhero figures in my collection.

Rogue & Beast Minimates

Rogue & Beast Minimates

Well, you knew if I had Gambit, I was going to have get the set with Rogue. I have to say that would have seemed like the more natural pairing for a two pack. I suppose they sell more this way. Both of these Minimates are again their 90’s versions. And I’m really okay with […]
