Rebel Fleet Trooper

Rebel Fleet Trooper

The very first time we see rebel soldiers is during the boarding action on the Tantive IV, in Star Wars: A New Hope. Even though Kenner didn’t make an action figure based on that costume design, up until the late 90’s, Hasbro had one version released in the Saga days incorporating the then innovative angled cut-joints for elbows and knees. Luckily, Hasbro decided to re-visit this character class in their Star Wars Vintage Collection, giving us a wholly upgraded Rebel Fleet Triooper (VC52) as part of their seventh wave of figures.

Scarlet (GI Joe: Renegades)

Scarlet (GI Joe: Renegades)

I’ve never been a big fan of Scarlet. But her Renegades incarnation has changed my mind. Both the update to her character and her outfit made a lot of sense to me. As such it only makes sense, that she is the first version of the red haired lass to join my GI Joe […]

Cyclops (Blue Team Uniform)

Cyclops (Blue Team Uniform)

Cyclops isn’t necessarily one of my favorite Marvel characters in terms of his personality, but the way he is depicted in media always seem s to translate well into action figure form. There have been a couple of action figures made of him in Hasbro’s Marvel Universe line, but the version released as part of the second wave of figures in Series 3 is one I had been hoping to see for a while now.

Hydra Solider

Hydra Solider

. The thing that has really struck me about the Marvel movie lines is the lack of baddies for the heroes to face off against. All three of the individual Avengers movie lines have been over ripe with the heroes. The endless Iron Man repaints versus just a few bad guys. Thor had versions with […]

Ahsoka Tano (CW44)

Ahsoka Tano (CW44)

Despite Hasbro Mexico’s best efforts, I still buy the odd Clone Wars figure when distribution doesn’t suck. Case in point, a figure that was allegedly released at the beginning of 2011, the newer incarnation of Ahsoka Tano (CW44).

Steel Brigade

Steel Brigade

The Steel Brigade trooper must have his fans at Hasbro. The Pit Commando got his helmet as an accessory and the VAMP repaint had one as a driver. This version is more in the classic mail-away colors. Appearance: Much like the original, the new version of the Steel Brigade trooper is amalgam of a number of […]

Darth Nil & Delia Blue (Star Wars Comic Packs)

Darth Nil & Delia Blue (Star Wars Comic Packs)

Even though the Hasbro 2-figure Comic Packs are no longer in production, the general consensus was that these were pretty good value for the money, by including two action figures and a reprint of a comic book.

Cobra Commander (Renegades)

Cobra Commander (Renegades)

I’ve always kind of felt bad for Cobra Commander. He never gets any respect and somebody thought he’d look cool in stirrup pants. But that was the 80’s. In the GI Joe Renegades animated series, we got a pretty good update of the commander. And with that, a new action figure.

Duke (GI Joe Renegades)

Duke (GI Joe Renegades)

I’ve never been a huge Duke fan. He just always seemed a little stuck up and bossy to me. I also wasn’t entirely sold on GI Joe: Renegades when it premiered. However, listening to the Justin from GeneralsJoes.com talk about it, I figure I’d give it a second chance. And I was extremely, glad […]

Darth Vader and Stromtrooper (Jedi Force)

Darth Vader and Stromtrooper (Jedi Force)

I was somewhat puzzled when Hasbro announced that they were going to stop making the Galactic Heroes line in favor of the new Jedi Force figures. I was never a big Galactic Heroes collector, but since I ended getting quite a few of them over the years (mostly when there was nothing else Star Wars related to buy at local stores), I kind of expected the line to go on for quite a long time still.

Ivan “Whiplash” Vanko

Ivan “Whiplash” Vanko

When the visual checklists for the upcoming Iron Man 2 waves of figures were made public, around summer 2010, I was actually excited by the possibility of getting a figure of Whiplash in this collection.

Whiplash – Iron Man 2

Whiplash – Iron Man 2

I’ve been putting off writing this for almost a year. Why? Well hopefully by the end you will know. Whiplash is one of just a couple of figures in the Iron Man line with a human face. And I think we can be glad that number is limited. Appearance: Have you ever been really excited […]

Qui-Gon Jinn & Eopie

Qui-Gon Jinn & Eopie

With all the up coming hype for Star Wars Episode 1 in 3D, I’m hoping we see some Qui Gon love. In the mean time, I guess I’ll tide myself over with this. From last year, this Qui Gon & Eopie was a mail away to fill a gap in some collectors collections. If my […]

Cobra Viper

Cobra Viper

Where the standard Cobra Trooper is more of a facility guard type soldier, the Viper appears to be more front line infantry. And this figure is a pretty cool update to a the classic look. Appearance: The head of the classic Viper is probably the most distinctive part of his uniform and this is a […]

Snow Job (Pursuit of Cobra)

Snow Job (Pursuit of Cobra)

As much as I was impressed with the vintage Snow Job being an “Adventure on  a Blister Card,” the Pursuit of Cobra version of the arctic GI Joe amps it up a bit more. As with most of the line, he comes with pretty decent amount of a gear and is a good character […]

Snow Job (Vintage)

Snow Job (Vintage)

Yes, I’m aware most of you were expecting to read a Black Dragon review this week. Well, I wasn’t happy with the pictures. It will be soon, though. So instead I put this vintage Joe review together as penance. As much as I didn’t like my Black Dragon pictures, I really don’t like taking pictures of […]

Cobra Air Trooper (Black Dragon Pilot)

Cobra Air Trooper (Black Dragon Pilot)

Included with the Black Dragon is a requisite pilot figure. Similar to the VAMP, this vehichle comes with a generic driver instead of a named pilot. This pilot is generic enough that if it wasn’t for the one small Cobra insignia, he could have came from either side of the GI Joe/Cobra battle lines. Appearance: […]

Logray

Logray

I must confess that I was not particularly excited to learn that there would be a new release of this character in Hasbro’s 2011 Vintage Collection. To my eye, the Kenner vintage one still holds it’s own against the more recent POTF version, and after seeing the other, updated ewoks that have ben released in the past few years, I didn’t think there would be a significant improvement.

Red Skull Redux

With the “Talk to the Skull and Win!” contest ending at Midnight yesterday, it’s a bit apropos that I’m talking about the Red Skull today. (Don’t worry, the contest winner will be announced as soon as they’ve been confirmed by email.) First, I was discussing the silent version of “Phantom of the Opera” with talented artist […]
